We’re so pleased we could help Pixie Rayn and wish her a smooth and speedy recovery! 🥰🐾

  • Lola’s story 🐾💛

Lola was brought to us after falling from a balcony. She had developed a pneumothorax, meaning air had built up inside her chest and was preventing her lungs from expanding normally. To help her breathe and allow her lungs to recover, Lola needed a chest drain. The following day, no more air could be removed from her chest, and an X-ray confirmed that the pneumothorax had resolved. We were then able to remove the drain and send Lola home to continue her recovery.
We’re so happy this little girl is doing well after such a frightening accident. 💛

❗️Please remember to keep balconies and open windows secure around pets. Falls from heights can cause serious internal injuries, even when they don’t look severely injured at first. A few extra precautions can make all the difference❗️
  • When accidents happen in seconds…💛

This little patient came to us after getting caught by a door, resulting in a severe degloving injury to the end of the tail. Due to the extent of the injury and pain, the best course of action was to amputate the damaged part of the tail under general anaesthesia.

❗️A little reminder for pet owners: accidents like this can happen very quickly. Be especially careful with doors and windows left open for ventilation. A sudden draught can cause a door or window to slam shut, potentially trapping a pet that is lying nearby or in the doorway.
Taking a moment to check where your pet is before leaving doors or windows open can help prevent serious injuries.💛🐾

Sadly, exotic pets like leopard geckos are abandoned more often than people realise — they need very specific heat, UV, and enclosure setups that aren't always easy to provide, and some owners feel they have no other option when they can't cope.
If this is your gecko, or you know who they belong to, please get in touch so we can reunite them. If you're an experienced, responsible keeper interested in offering a home should no owner come forward, message us and we'll keep you updated.

  • 🐱Chronic Cough…

This Ragdoll had been experiencing a chronic cough for around a year. Steroids had previously improved the symptoms, but the cough returned once treatment was stopped.

To investigate the underlying cause, we performed a bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL)🫁

During a BAL, sterile fluid is introduced into the lower airways and then gently collected back. The sample can then be examined and sent for further testing to look for inflammation, infection or other changes within the lungs.

BAL can be a valuable diagnostic tool when investigating chronic respiratory signs such as coughing, helping us understand what is happening within the lungs and choose the most appropriate treatment for each patient. 🩺🩵
